‘Let Me Stand Next to Your Fire’ was inspired by an Instagram prompt, but the pull was already there. I’ve always been a fan of Jimi Hendrix, and while preparing for this piece I revisited David Montgomery’s iconic photography for Electric Ladyland. That body of work became the visual anchor for this painting.
Rather than reinterpret the image directly, I focused on the energy and presence that runs through those photographs—the intensity, the confidence, and the heat suggested by the title itself.
