‘Back Home’ 16x20” Surreal Expressionist Painting
Back Home is a surreal expressionist meditation on place, memory, and spirit. Painted in mixed media on a 16”x20” stretched canvas, the work anchors itself in the Philly skyline, resting in the bottom left corner. Above it rises a vertical column of six eyes, a watchful presence stretching upward.
Two distinct skull-like forms emerge, each with a ghost inhabiting its nose, while a pair of lips and a jetliner in the top right corner gesture toward distance, longing, and return. In a final haunting detail, a strange blue figure gazes forlornly through a skull’s eye socket shaped window, suspended between worlds of inner vision and external landscape.
