‘Charlie Chaplin’ grew out of an Instagram prompt, but the subject choice was easy for me. I’ve always been a fan. As a kid, I spent a lot of time watching old comedy marathons—mostly Abbott and Costello—but that’s also where I first encountered Chaplin’s early work.
I was drawn to this particular reference because of the small details: the dented hat, the expression of exhaustion and frustration. It’s a look that feels timeless. Everyone has days where that exact feeling sits right on their face.
This portrait is meant as a quiet nod to that kind of humor—observant, physical, and deeply human.
This work crosses my Black and White and Without Words bodies of work.
