‘It’s No Good’ was a commission inspired by the Depeche Mode video of the same name. I was drawn to a short moment in the video where Dave Gahan and a few models are moving through New York City at night—between destinations, not rushing anywhere, just existing in the flow of the city.
Painting the skyline and the Brooklyn Bridge was especially fun for me. New York carries its own mood after dark, and I wanted the city to feel present without overpowering the scene. The focus isn’t on narrative so much as atmosphere—movement, distance, and that particular feeling of being out late with nowhere specific to land.
This piece lives in my Without Words body of work, where mood and memory do most of the talking.
This original painting is now in a private collection.
