‘Punk Marie Antoinette’ started with a very traditional reference—the bust at the Louvre. My first sketch was accurate, but it felt flat, so I pushed it in another direction.
Giving her a punk edge brought the piece to life. The contrast between refinement and rebellion was the point, letting the image break away from reverence and land somewhere more contemporary and personal.
